Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring to the medical?

  • If it is your first aviation or marine medical examination, please bring one piece of photo ID. 
  • If you are a licensed pilot, please bring your licence for Dr. Magee to stamp your renewal.
  • If you wear glasses or contact lenses, please bring a current prescription from your eye doctor.  If you are wearing contact lenses, you must be able to remove them during the physical.
  • If you have had a previously documented or recent medical event, please bring copies of your medical records.
  • Please bring your preferred method of payment – cash, Debit, Mastercard, or Visa.  Aviation and Marine medical examinations are NOT covered under any health card plans.

How frequently do I need a medical?

  • Please refer to the section “Medical examination requirements for pilots”.
  • Seafarers need an examination every 2 years.

Do I need an ECG this time?

This varies according to your age and category.  Please check the section “Medical examination requirements for pilots”.

What is the difference between a Cat. 1 and Cat.3 medical?

  • A Category 1 medical is a Commercial licence.
  • A Category 3 is a Private licence.
